Solange new hairdo


Solange Knowles appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show last Wednesday(Sept.30)to talk about her hair-or lack thereof-after pulling a Britney Spears and chopping her lengthy locks in favor of a buzz cut back in July.Solange's appearance was a part of Oprah's coverage of Chris Rock's upcoming documentary,Good Hair,which humorously explores black women's struggle with their hair,with the help of a few celebrities.
The 23-year-old R&B singer explained that she made the decision to go short and sweet because she was fed up of shelling out cash and dedicating so much time to properly caring for her hair.Realistically I was spending about $40,000-$50,000[on hair]she said.A year and probably half of my life,I grew up in a hair salon,my mum owned a hair salon.There was always this feeling of always wanting to be in the salon once or twice a week and I got a perm pretty early-I was four.
Solange's hair became a trending topic on Twitter after a paparazzi photo of the new cut surfaced online,but the Houston native had some choice words for her critics.I just wanted to be free from the bondage that black women sometimes put on themselves with hair,she wrote on her Twitter page.I'm not mad at all of you that have made your opinions know and have sent negative energy my way.I expected this of you.She informed fans that this wasn't the first time she had chopped her locks–citing previous occasions when she was 16 and 18 years old.
During her appearance on Oprah,Solange set the record straight for the final time,explaining that her new haircut simply made her life easier.This phase in my life I want to spend the time the energy and the money on something else and not in the hair salon,she said.

How to Apply Eyeshadow
I'm a beauty editor and yet it took me years to figure out how to apply eyeshadow that:
1.Wasn't crooked(mismatched eyes!)
2.Wasn't too dark or blotchily blended(yes,I know"blotchily"is not a word)
3.Didn't extend to the wrong,wrong,wrong upper reaches of my eyelids
After years of seeing makeup artists in action and learning numerous eyeshadow tips and tricks,here are my 10 favorites I wish someone had told me twenty years ago:
Secret #1:Blending is key
Ok,well I sorta knew this,but I wasn't sure HOW TO BLEND.You use three different colors:The base,usually a very light taupe,a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid,but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow?My secret:Start light then go darker.Brush the base color,apply the lid color and THEN apply the highlighter.Also,don't be too heavy-handed or you'll have to start over.Extra tip:Practice makes perfect.Play with your makeup a few days before a big event.
Secret #2:Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop
Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow.Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out(think blue shadow on blue eyes).At the same time,contrasting colors make eyes pop too(think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes).
Secret #3:Never cover your browbone with deep color--unless you're doing a cover shoot for Vogue
You don't want the drama too much shadow brings.Apply shadow up to the browbone but don't apply shadow ON the bone unless it's a neutral color or a highlighter.
Secret #4:Highlighter can make or break your look
When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye,be careful to blend only on the outside edge.Get to close to the eye and you'll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.
Secret #5:Set shadow with a great base
Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours.I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base.Almost everyone makes them but I swear by MAC Paints.
Secret #6:Shimmer is hot,but plays up wrinkles
Shimmer makes eyes really pop,but it also highlights heavy lids,lines and wrinkles.A great look for shimmer is to create a'nude'lid,but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone.Gorgeous!
Secret #7:Smokey is great,but keep it to the lid
Making up a smokey eye?Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline.Don't extend color above the crease.
Secret #8:How to pair shadow with red lips
Remember the beauty rule'Thou Shalt Not Play up the Lips AND the Mouth.'If you're going for dramatic red lips(never out of fashion),cover unsightly blue lines on lids with a concealer or shadow primer and then keep eyeshadow light.
Secret #9:Make eyes brighter with white
A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter.
Secret #10:Go for color Taupe and lavender look great on all eye colors.Also consider mixing shades if you bought a color that's just too bold for you.Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.Great buys:

Hair Care Home Remedies


Fruit Smoothie Hair Mask
Blend 1/2 a banana,1/4 cantaloupe,1/4 avocado,1 tablespoon wheat germ oil and 1 tablespoon yogurt.For extra conditioning,squeeze in the contents of a vitamin E capsule.Leave in hair for 15 minutes.
Honey & Olive Oil Hair Mask
Mix 1/2 cup honey and 3 tablespoons olive oil.Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated.Cover hair with a shower cap;leave on 30 minutes.Shampoo well and rinse.
Dandruff Treatment
Boil 7 heaping tablespoons dried thyme in 2 cups water for 10 minutes.Strain and cool.Pour 1/2 mixture over clean,damp hair.Massage into scalp,do not rinse.Use the rest of the solution another day.
Yogurt Hair Mask
Beat 1 egg white until foamy.Add to 6 tablespoons plain natural yogurt.Apply to hair in small sections at a time.Leave in for 15 minutes.Rinse.
Conditioners
Mayonnaise is a great conditioner for dry hair.Depending on the length of your hair,apply approximately 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to your dry hair.Work into hair really well and then cover your hair with a plastic bag,allowing to set for about 15 minutes.Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo as usual.
In a blender or food processor,combine 2 1/2 tablespoons dried milk,1 tablespoon wheat germ oil,and 1 egg.Apply evenly to hair and let set for at least an hour.Shampoo and style as usual.
Hair Setting Lotions
Try dissolving a teaspoon of gelatin in a cup of warm water and use this as a setting lotion before styling hair.You can use this as a liquid or chill it and use it as a gel.
Dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in 1 cup warm water and apply to damp hair before styling.
Combine 4 tablespoons olive oil and 2 tablespoons honey in a glass jar with a lid and shake until well blended.Let mixture sit for 3 to 4 days,and shake it occasionally.Rub mixture evenly into dry hair and wrap hair in plastic wrap,letting set for at least an hour.Shampoo as usual.
Mix together 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and 1 egg.Apply to hair and let set for about an hour.Shampoo as usual.
To help a flaky scalp,warm 2 to 3 tablespoons vegetable oil in the microwave(make sure it’s not too hot!)and then gently apply to scalp with cotton balls.Let set for at least an hour and then shampoo as usual.

Dark Lips Tips


After you brush your teeth every morning,try using your toothbrush to‘exfoliate’your lips too!It should brush off some dead cells and promote the growth of new ones.Also,do not forget that lip balm!Are your lips chapped and dehydrated?Fix what you already have by first using an old toothbrush and brushing your lips with Vaseline(do this every other day).
Then you need to use Vaseline or your favorite lip balm on your lips every night before you go to bed.Make sure to pile it on at night(do this every night).Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.Remember to wear a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher to protect them.After a few days you’ll notice a dramatic difference.Keep this up,and make it an everyday habit.
Try to apply concealer over your entire lip.Then use your favorite lipstick and you’ll look prettier and healthier.For best results,use a lip liner before applying lipstick.Some lipstick contain materials which actually make your lips darker after regular use(a high percentage of lead or something).So,use only mild varieties of lipstick,lipliner,pencils and glosses.Drink more water,it really helps to pump up the lips.
Every night before going to bed,apply vaseline petroleum jelly on the lips with your fingers(they come in a small bottle as well)if you sleep with the AC on every night.The next day,use a toothbrush to brush away the leftover vaseline and dead skin on the lips(very effective for cracked lips)after your normal brushing.You will see your lips getting redder and‘more pumped up’.
This also helps if you have recurring problems of cracked lips or peeling skin that stays on your lips(and you tend to bite them away).Vaseline deals with uneven lips and helps in having a healthy smile.Your lipsticks may not be suitable for you.Care for your lips.It does have something to do with metabolism.Dark lips may be due to an unhealthy diet and unsuitable lipsticks.
You have to be careful when choosing a brand that is suitable for you.Stop it immediately when you notice changes with your natural lip colour.As for a healthy diet,try to eat more fruits and avoid caffeine and smoking.Another method that can help is to drink more red dates water.Put about 6 dates in a cup and pour hot water on it.Wait about 1/2 hr or 45 minutes before you drink it.
It is convenient,easy to prepare and good for your blood circulation.Try it a few times a week.Apply a thin layer of toothpaste to your lips before you go to sleep.Your lips in the morning will be redder and cleaner.Your lip colour might have to do with what you eat because it is vital to have a balanced diet.If you don’t have a balanced diet,then eat more healthy food.

7.Exchange…the money you spend on junk food for food that will enrich your body and soul.Start with a simple plan of exchange.Because some think healthy foods cost more,find out your spending pattern by making 2 lists:
.foods you like that are healthy that you normally don’t buy
.foods you like that are“junk food”that you normally buy
calculate the cost of the 2nd list then use this amount to fund your“healthy”purchase.(of course you have to say bye-bye to the“junk food”)
8.“Stop and smell the roses”.Look for good in everything.This is a toughie because most of us are“trained”to look for faults,errors,shortcomings,defects,etc.Begin with yourself.List all your assets(not just physical).Then realize all the good in being you.Move on to other things around you.Work on this consciously every day till it becomes a habit.There is something good about everything and everyone.Once you realize this you will be finding good everywhere without even trying.
9.Learn…something new every day.Pick up a book.or search online.Learn to do something you have always wanted to do.You can even start for free by researching online.Search the subject and start stimulating and enriching your mind today.
10.Reward yourself.Set financial and personal goals and tag them with rewards for accomplishing them.(this one may be something special you have always wanted to do.and not necessarily a purchase.But if you have done all the above maybe go ahead and splurge a little.You deserve it!

Add 2 quarts of cold water using the beans to the pot and food to a boil.
Step 3:
Drain the beans,then add 2 quarts of tepid cold water again.
Step 4:
Boil for 30 comments,then add 2 Tbsp.of cumin and 1 tsp.colorless shower
Step 5:
In a frying pan,sauté the next ingredients in 1 Tbsp.of jade oil pending tender:
-2diced carrots
-2Tbsp.of gauzily chopped tepid ginger
-3cloves of garlic,minced
-1 large,gauzily chopped agreeable onion
Step 6:
-Add the ingredients to the soup,then conceal,and boil for 30 comments,or pending beans are cooked through.
Step 7:
-During the last 15 comments solely,add sea brackish to sample.(Adding the brackish any previous will harden the beans.)
Step 8:
-Just before quota,add juice of 1 tepid emerald and 3 Tbsp.of tepid cilantro.
Usage of this home remedy:
Drink this homemade soup at least once in a week,and see eye dark circles eroding away in week.

Acne and skin aging


The relationship between acne and aging has several facets.It is well known that acne typically starts at a certain age(around puberty)and tends to either resolve or diminish in early to mid twenties.(Some people continue having outbreaks as late as the middle age.)Less known is the fact that untreated acne contributes to the process of skin aging.Furthermore,some acne treatments,even when they are effective,also accelerate skin aging.
Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease.Acne prone skin spends significant time in the inflamed state.Inflammation is a well-known accelerator of aging.Inflammation generates free radicals,activates matrix metalloproteinases(enzymes that break down the skin’s structural components like collagen and elastin),promotes excessive cell proliferation,etc.,all of which contributes to skin aging.Treating your acne,at least to the degree of markedly reducing the number of inflamed lesions,is arguably the best skin anti-aging step you could make apart from sun protection.
How you treat your acne may have a major impact on the aging of your skin.As a general rule,any treatment that causes skin irritation and/or excessive skin dryness should be used cautiously.Irritation,by itself,promotes skin aging.Excessive dryness reduces the skin’s ability to heal itself.Certain acne treatments should be used with a particular caution(as far as skin aging is concerned).
Benzoyl peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide is a strong oxidizer that kills bacteria by generating oxygen free radicals.Topical benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective topical acne treatments.It is highly effective in killing against P.acnes(acne-causing bacteria).Furthermore,benzoyl peroxide has an advantage over antibiotics because bacteria do not develop resistance to it.

An occasional,short-term use of benozyl peroxide produces relatively small long-term skin damage.On the other hand,long-term use of benozyl peroxide,especially at high concentrations,is likely to age your skin prematurely.It is worth trying safer alternatives first.Unfortunately,for many people,benzoyl peroxide is only effective topical treatment.In that case,it is prudent to find the lowest possible effective concentration.Concentrations of benzoyl peroxide as low as 2.5% may be effective,especially if combined with other treatments.
Topical retinoids
Topical retinoids are one of the common prescription acne treatments.Possible side effects include skin irritation,dryness,and sensitivity to UV light.Over the long run,chronic skin irritation may accelerate skin aging.Neglecting meticulous sun protection when using retinoids is likely to accelerate skin aging as well.
However,the situation with topical retinoids and skin aging is more complicated.In fact,tretinoin(Retin A),a widely used retinoid,is one of the very few drugs approved by the FDA as an anti-wrinkle agent.Indeed,when used prudently,retinoids actually reduce many signs of skin aging and may even inhibit some of the mechanisms of skin aging.
Some people with acne respond to the concentration of retinoids sufficiently low to avoid chronic,long-term skin irritation.In that case,one may get both anti-acne and anti-aging benefits.Others respond only to the formulations of retinoids strong enough to produce chronic irritation.In that case,other topical alternatives should be explored and/or steps be taken to reduce the irritation.
Exfoliation
Exfoliation with alpha or beta-hydroxy acids is a common component of acne treatment programs.Whether it is effective against acne and to what extend it debatable.Arguably,it may improve penetration of other treatments and,when done with salicylic acid,reduce the formation of comedones.Moderate exfoliation,especially with alpha-hydroxy acids,may also have some skin rejuvenation benefits.On the other hand,excessive exfoliation may lead to chronic irritation,skin dryness and sensitivity and actually contribute to the aging process.

Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy.People who are active live longer and feel better.Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight.It can delay or prevent diabetes,some cancers and heart problems.
Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week.Examples include walking briskly,mowing the lawn, dancing,swimming for recreation or bicycling.Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.
The key is to find the right exercise for you.If it is fun,you are more likely to stay motivated.You may want to walk with a friend,join a class or plan a group bike ride.If you’ve been inactive for awhile,use a sensible approach and start out slowly.
